Who We Are

ICHAD is a collaboration between researchers and community members; experienced scientists and students beginning their careers.

MEET OUR DIRECTOR

Dr. Fred Ssewamala

Dr. Ssewamala is the Director and founder of the Columbia University International Center for Child Health and Asset Development and Professor at the Columbia University School of Social Work (CSSW) and the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). Dr. Ssewamala is particularly interested in the ways economic strengthening programs improve health, developmental and behavioral outcomes for disadvantaged youth in resource-limited settings, specifically in sub-Saharan Africa. His current studies evaluate the cost-effectiveness and long-term outcomes of a family based economic empowerment intervention for both HIV positive and AIDS-orphaned youth in southern Uganda.
